2. Jessica Alba went for the color block trend and though I'm not a huuuuge fan of color, I kind of like it, especially on her.. she's never that much of a fashion risk taker. It's not fair.. I woke up super sick yesterday.. soar throat, fever, headache.. ugh.. and I thought I was so lucky for not catching the flu this winter... anyway, I still managed to get some work done 'cause I've got loads of it right now.

Today I woke up still feeling kind of sick.. I'd just like to spend the entire day in my pj's, tucked in my bed, drinking cups of tea or toffee nut flavored coffee or eating noodle soup; watching good old movies.. like the one in the image above... "My first kiss"... I can't remember when was the last time I saw it but I love it!

"Cada quien carga su propia cruz"... spanish words for "everyone carries their own cross"... it references the cross that supposedly Jesus Christ held all the way to the top of the hill when condemned to death... It's a very well known phrase in México, it expresses how we all have our own problems and griefs; they may be different from one another but we all carry our own cross.

Of course I'm only thinking about this because of the cross earring I'm wearing, or should I say "carrying".

When it comes to choosing a dress for a big event, I've seen most girls aim towards black; it is chic, sophisticated and slimming.. no wonder it's the crowd's favorite.

I know some others choose colors over black, but I think black always ends up being the most popular.

Black is always my number one option when it comes to dressing up for my daily life.. my closset's full of black clothes, but that's why I tend towards colors when I have a black tie event, weddings or some other sort of Gala to attend to... I have to look different from my everyday clothes... and I always want to wear white because it stresses me that I can't wear it to weddings... so when ever I CAN wear a white gown, I go for it.

What do you do in these cases... black vs. white.. which one do you choose?

I saw this amazing bright red stretch velvet fabric a while ago and immediately grabbed it, I had to make myself a dress in that awesome material.. and this is the result.. a cut-out dress.

I wore it with a leopard print coat I made, black shoes and lots of jewelry... I'm especially digging my new earring. A friend of mine is launching her jewelry line and it is really cool, it's called Lola Bassó... once my online store is up and running I'll be selling her stuff online too, so stay tuned!

Amber Heard looked marvelous in this minimal look: a white long dress with no skin exposure; proving that looking hot doesn't mean one should show off a lot of skin, on the contrary, less is more; it leaves more to the imagination.

It's a board game where you get across the map depending on the number you get after rolling the dice; while you move you can either land on ladders or snakes. Ladders take you up, cutting down the road, getting closer to the finishing line; while snakes take you down, you fall behind and start over again... I guess that's how life is too.

the two fridas

Frida Kahlo has always been a great inspiration to me. I believe she was an outstanding, creative and really strong woman; and I like to think I somewhat relate to her art because she painted what she felt and saw inside her head; which is exactly what I do as well, I draw whatever it is I have inside my mind at the moment I’m experiencing it.

For the ones related to Frida’s life you may already know the painting I’m about to present here, but for the ones that aren’t I highly encourage you to read more about her art, her life as “Frida” and her life as “Frida and Diego”; her husband (Mexican painter).

The next painting of Frida is called “The two Fridas” (1939). I remembered it due to the fact I’m somewhat experiencing a familiar feeling.

The painting shows the emotions Frida had about her separation and marriage crisis. On the right, the part of her person which was respected and loved by Diego is the “Mexican Frida” in a Tehuana costume; which her husband wanted her to wear all the time. In her hand she holds an amulet bearing a portrait of him. On the left, a more rather European Frida wears a white Victorian wedding dress, that’s the Frida that Diego abandoned.

There’s this thing about Frida that, whenever she had a fight with her beloved Diego she did things to herself she knew would piss him off. For example, Diego loved her long dark hair, and so she cut it; Diego loved her to wear Mexican Traditional clothes and so she stopped wearing those and wore the fashionable styles from the time. It’s like she became this other “Frida” when they separated; and they did have an “on and off’ relationship.

All of this got me to thinking, how do women react when they break-up. If they were the ones breaking up well I’m sure they do just fine with their lives; but when they are the ones hurt; what do they do?, what do we do?
Should we become this worst version of ourselves or should we be motivated to become a better version of ourselves?, should we star over as a new person?, or should we strand with the depressed souls and lose ourselves?

I’m not implying that our fates should dwell around that “guy”, but we have to admit we do react in a certain way and I’m curious about it. I’ve seen some friends become sexier even slutty-er versions of themselves just to call his attention; I’ve seen others collapse and lose all interest in men. I guess I’ve always reacted like Frida and that’s why I remembered that portrait, because I’m kind of doing the same; going the opposite of what I knew he liked about me; and it’s not the first time I do it, I’ve done it before. I’m not re-inventing myself, it’s still me but in a different way, like another side of me I held back before, like a flipping coin.

What’s to become of women when they face a situation like this?

It is clear that white lace is not going away for the next seasons so we might as well keep indulging on it... do you own more than 2 or 3 white lace pieces?

Dree Hemingway looked awesome in the new Christopher Kane for J Brand Jeans, n'est pas?

I'm loving the fact she decided to pair up those bright skinnies with something just as bright: a metallic top (also by Christopher Kane). Adding up a pale denim jacket helps minimize the volume on the shinny materials and it clashes perfectly with the grunge-galactic look she's got going on.

I had to improvise with clothes I already had due to the small ammount of time, so I decided to present only Party Dresses. The materials I sent to the runway included velvet, white and black lace, metallics and sequins.

Marvelous!
Karl Lagerfeld really went beyond with Chanel's Pre-Fall 2012 collection.
An Indian feast filled with extravagance, luxury and an exotic sensuality that no doubt captured every eye that had the priviledge to attend to the Maharaja-worthy show.

When I saw this collection, besides drooling over all the head pieces; all I could think of was Ewan McGregor screaming his Moulin Rouge dialogue as Christian: "India!.. it's set in India!".

I've always felt intrigued by the enormous amount of sensuality women portrayed during the 40s, 50s, 60s even 70s decade. These were times where showing too much skin was considered unethical, unacceptable, impolite, unrefined and inferior... but still lots of women enjoyed having their pictures taken in celebration of their own sensuality.

I don't mean to sound rude to "sexy" women nowadays, but it's just that back then, these "nude" photos seemed artistic and liberating; like if women were happy to shout to the world "this is me, I am a strong woman and I'm not affraid to show it". Now, all you see in tv, magazines or music albums is just plain porn nudity with photoshoped bodies that have also been previously under plastic surgery. I don't judge who ever gets plastic surgery.. I'm just saying it's not the same as it was before.. when women accepted their own natural bodies.

I don't think sensuality is accomplished by the perfect body a girl might have.. I think it comes from inside; it's the essence of the woman, the confidence to believe in herself to be desirable, luscious and provocative. Any woman can achieve that if she believes in herself.

I've always felt self-conscious about my body... that's why I find these photos so beautifully inspirational. To have the guts to pose for a nude photo.. that takes a lot of confidence and acceptance of oneself, don't you think?
